Spring Player Rankings (13u-17u)
|
|
|

In 2009,
Illinois produced 14 USSSA All-Americans and 9 National Team members
(14u, 15u, 16u) who
will compete in International competition this year. Without a doubt,
Illinois is a hotbed for talent. With the season underway, ABR
announces its 13u-17u Illinois Player Rankings
17u Illinois Player Rankings
1. Joey Filomeno
The
Louisville bound Left Hander remains at the top of our list with his
90-93 mph fastball off the mound with a sharp 83 mph curveball and a
great feel for his changeup. At the plate, this two-way star has power
from the right side with the ability to hit to all fields with his
short, compact swing and his simple approach. He is also as good as it
gets with the glove at first base.
2. Jake Junis
5-tool shortstop is also a force on the
mound touching 89 with his fastball and a disappearing changeup.
Middle of the order guy that drives the ball to all fields and steals
bases at will.
3. Kyle Klosak
Oakton
College bound Flame-Thrower sits 91-93 with his fastball, mix in a hard,
sharp, late-breaking slider and a developing changeup that makes him a
top pro prospect. Should be a draft guy this Summer.

16u Illinois Player Rankings
1. Joshua Ferry
Loose arm was already Mid to Upper 80’s off the mound in Summer '09
with 2 outstanding off speed pitches but can also hit from the left
side. Pitched in 2006 Little League World Series.
2. Brett Lilek
90's fastball from the left side with late tailing action isn't fair
when combined with the sharp 12-6 hammer he throws as a wipeout pitch.
Arm is loose and will only throw harder in years to come.
3. Robert Thorson
Exploding 88 mph fastball is still sneaky fast due to the effortless
delivery. Curveball is a hard biting sweeper which he commands almost
as well as his changeup clocked at 80 mph where he puts wherever he
wants; Corner infielder with middle infield actions, smooth hands and
very strong arm; Bat speed up to 89 mph with a level approach and the
ability to use the middle of the field. Possible 4 or 5-tool ballplayer
at the next level.

15u Illinois Player Rankings
1. Joshua Ferry
Runs well, pops 80-82 on the mound with the 4-seamer with a
great tailing changeup, tight 12-6 curveball and command for all
pitches; Uses the middle of the field well at the plate with line drives
to all fields with power from Gap to Gap. Possible 5 tool ballplayer
at the next level
2. Brett Lilek
Up to 85 mph off the bump with a filthy change up that he
mixes in with the 12-6 hammer; Can really hit as well, and with a sub
4.0 home to first time, he could be a 5 tool guy as well.
3. Robert Thorson
81-83 off the mound in the summer of 2009 with a curveball
and changeup that he throws for strikes; sub 2.1 pop time behind the
plate as well.

14u Illinois Player Rankings
1. Muta Crusoe
5 tools and seems to be
polished; 4.0 home to first from right handed batter's box; smooth hands
up the middle with a strong arm with little effort, infield actions are
very advanced, outfield actions are the same with very good carry on
throws. Maybe best arm in his class; Swing is long but powerful,
squares it up to all fields and shows the ability to hit for power; Will
be able to overpower hitters at this level off the mound
2. Eric Tucker
Great command of three
pitches, fastball is a big tailing two-seamer, curveball moves the
hitter's eyes and the changeup stays low in the zone and paints corners;
Pretty good infield and outfield actions with a strong arm and good
baseball accumen; Makes solid contact to all fields, lets the ball
travel and allows his bat to be quick, shows power to all fields with a
simple approach.
3. Alec Kozak
Mixes up his 3-pitch
sequence with different arm angles but seems to control all of them (70
mph fb, 61 mph sweeping slider with great movement, 60 mph straight
change with dive); Everything about him screams ballplayer; great hands
and feet in the infield with a very quick release and strong throws
across the diamond; slight uppercut allows for some pull power and still
stays short to the baseball and doesn't get out and around.

13u Illinois Player Rankings
1. Ray Seebeck
Big, Athletic Frame. 2.25
Pop time with pretty good velo and carry down to second base. His
footwork and transfer behind the plate are very efficient. In the
infield, he's a corner guy with the actions of a middle infielder (quick
smooth transition from glove to hand and a quick effortless release
with a strong throw across the diamond; At the plate he gets leverage on
the ball with his long arms and quick wrists while still being short to
the ball. Demonstrated plus pull power. Has a chance to hit very well
at the next level.
2. Aquila Ryu
Burner with a sub-4 home to
first time; velocities up to 75 mph from the outfield with good carry,
hands and feet are excellent up the middle, transfer is quick and
seamless and throws across the diamond are quick and accurate;
Line-Drive approach to all fields with accidental power to the gaps,
batspeed is very advanced and effortless; 73 with the heater off the
mound with a 60 mph sweeping, late-breaking slider and a changeup with
tail and dive at 59 mph. 5 tool guy
3. Sean DeLaCruz
2-seamer off the mound with
late movement in on the righty, 2 other above average pitches; good
feet, good hands up the middle; Bat stays in the zone a long time for a
line drive approach with accidental power to the gaps.
