The Prospects 13U travel baseball team won their 3rd straight tournament championship in Bourbonnais, IL during the May 2-4, 2008 weekend.  The Lumber Yard hosted the U.S.S.S.A. NIT tournament, which rewarded national double points for Illinois rank and seed.  The Prospects defeated the Waasco Wildcats 5-3 in the championship game on May 4.

The first place finish earned the Prospects a 2008 USSSA World Series qualification for Illinois, which the team will not exercise as they already have plans to compete at the Ripken Experience national tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in July.

The Prospects defeated the Lake Zurich Cougars to begin seed play on Saturday, May 3, with an 8-0 shutout.  After pool play completed, the Prospects entered seeded play and won 13-1 in four innings versus the New Lenox Rebels Black travel team.  The victory over New Lenox catapulted the Prospects to the semi-finals against the Lockport Vipers.  After falling behind early, the Prospects showed their relentless character and perseverance staging a late rally to win 10-6, earning a berth to their third consecutive championship round.

"It was a long weekend with five games in two days for the team, but the pitching rotation kept the boys loose and rested as we advanced throughout Sunday," stated Prospects' Head Coach Steve Korbel.

Prior to each tournament, Korbel and Prospects' Manager Mark Williams, request that each coach review the rules and limitations set forth for that particular weekend, which helps keep the team organized and strategy at its peak.

"Our team effort begins before we step foot on the field.  It's a collaboration between the coaching staff along with the execution and performance by our talented group of players," added Korbel.  "We rest the boys as much as possible on pitching rotations, getting in light work during the week if a tournament is scheduled for the upcoming weekend," reinforced by Manager Mark Williams.

The Prospects boast three crowns for the 2008 season after winning the 2008 USSSA NIT Championship.  Prior to this title, the Prospects had won the 2008 Lombard Lightning tournament and the 2008 Morton 13U Spring Classic.  The team takes a break from tournament play until May 16-18, when they travel to Champaign, IL for the USSSA Gold Glove tournament.
